The present invention relates to a method for recognizing a quiescence state based on a depth sensor and an apparatus thereof. A method for recognizing a quiescence state based on a depth sensor according to the present invention comprises the steps of: obtaining sensing values from a plurality of depth sensors for irradiating infrared rays; determining whether there is a body motion at each sensing time by using the sensing values; if not so, performing + counting of a first value, and if so, performing – counting of a second value to obtain an accumulated count value for the current time; and determining that the body is in a quiescence state if the accumulated count value is maintained to be equal to or greater than a threshold for a preset time interval. According to the method for recognizing the quiescence state based on the depth sensor and the apparatus thereof, the sleep state of a body can be effectively determined based on the depth sensor for obtaining depth information by irradiating infrared rays.
