Bayesian Analyses with Qualitative Data

2021
Bayesian methodology provides many advantages when compared to the more commonly used frequentist methodology (e.g., ordinary least squares, maximum likelihood). Bayesian methods have been shown to work well for small sample data because they do not depend on asymptotic or large sample theory. Onwuegbuzie et al. demonstrated the Bayesian analysis of mixed data in SCEDs by using qualitative data as priors and quantitative data as likelihood. However, there is a need for more work on Bayesian analysis of qualitative data. Onwuegbuzie et al. provide some good examples of quantitising qualitative data for Bayesian analysis in a mixed methods framework using general linear models and meta-analysis. Natesan Batley provided an introduction to the use of Bayesian methods in a multiple inquiry framework that also involved quantitising qualitative data for Bayesian analysis.
