Wear particle collection and evaluation

1998
Fluid monitoring is performed for three major reasons; these are: 1 to ensure the minimization of contamination in lubrication oils and hydraulic fluids, by particulate matter or other contaminants, which if unobserved may result in machinery failure. 2 to ensure a minimization of the degradation of the physical condition of the fluid, which again if unobserved can also lead to equipment failure. 3 to ensure that any wear debris, contained in a fluid as a result of component damage, is detected, collected and subsequently analysed, thus allowing its source to be identified for repair.
