Expectations vs. Reality: an international perspective of transitioning to HE

The presentation aims to give voice to international students who are transitioning to British universities. With specific regard to their expectations of UK education and the cultural differences in their native schools, we will reflect on the student experience with a focus on academic themes of reading, writing and debate. Using authentic student voice, captured in surveys and interviews, we hope to throw some light on the cultural and personal reasons for a disparity between expectations and reality. We will discuss methods that can be employed before and during university studies to foster confidence and success, creating a coherent educational experience while also celebrating diversity.
