Drinking water and water-borne diseases in an urban environment: case of Ahmedabad.

1998
This paper attempts to analyse the spatial pattern of four major water-borne diseases in Ahmedabad and finds out to what extent quality availability and use of water are responsible for water-borne diseases in Ahmedabad. Computer software Geographic Information System has been used to prepare an overlay of drinking water and a composite map of spatial distribution of water-borne diseases. The main centre of diseases is found to be located in the eastern side of the city where the quality as well as quantity of water are poor. In suburban areas people get diseases mainly due to poor behavior of not drinking purified water. (authors)
