Efficacy and adverse reactions of chronic hepatitis C treated with peg-interferon alpha-2a and ribavirin

2010
Objective:To observe the efficacy and adverse reactions of managing chronic hepatitis C with peg-interferon alpha-2a and ribavirin. Methods:The virological response of 63 patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection after anti-HCV management were retrospectively analyzed. All patients were given peg-IFN alpha-2a and ribavirin for 48 weeks.HCV RNA was tested before treatment,at 12 and 24 weeks post management, end of treatment,24 and 48 weeks after treatment stopped. The side effects were also observed. Results:The rapid virological response was 58.7%(37/63),the early virological response, the end-of-treatment virological response, the sustained virological response of 24 weeks after treatment stopped and 48 weeks when treatment stopped were 68.2%(43/63),73%(46/63),65%(41/63).There were 5 patients who stopped peg-interferon alpha-2a because of the side effects. The main side effects was flu-like symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms, blood routine disorders, psychiatric symptoms and thyroid diseases.Conclusion:PEG-IFN alpha-2a in combination with ribavirin can effectively and safely treat patients with chronic hepatitis C.Earlyer discover the adverse reactions and ensure patients' whole course of treatment.
