Circularly Polarized Microstrip Patch Antenna Array Based on FSS Polarization Converter

2019
This paper designed a circularly polarized microstrip patch antenna array which realizes circular polarization by loading an FSS-based polarization converter. The proposed FSS polarization converter is based on the multilayer non-resonant FSS which has a low profile. It is composed of 13 × 11 subwavelength units which the dimension is 0.18λ 0 × 0.18λ 0 . The simulated results show that the axial ratio is less than 3 dB in the frequency range of 9.5 GHz to 11.3 GHz i.e. a fractional bandwidth of 17.3% within the targeted frequency band. With the FS S polarization converter loaded, there is a slightly gain reduction when compared with the original microstrip patch antenna array in the band.
