COMPARSION OF SELF ESTEEM, BODY IMAGE, SEXUAL SATISFACTION AND SEXUAL EXPERIENCES BETWEEN WOMEN WHO HAD MASTECTOMY OR BREAST CONSERVING SURGERY FOR BREAST CARCINOMA -

Objectives: The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of surgery operation types on body imge, self esteem, sexual satisfaction and sexual experiences in women with breast cancer. Method: The sample of this research included 50 women patients from the Radiaton Oncology archive scanning who had diagnosed breast cancer. %50 of patients were women who experienced modified radical mastectomy operation, 50 women who experienced breast conserving surgery.Demographic Information Form, Rosenberg’s Self Esteem Scale (RSES), Golombok Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale (GRISS), Arizona Sexual Experiences (ASEX) and Body Cathexis Scale (BIS) were administrated. Results: The mean age of sample is 51,18±9,93. Between two groups, the women who had breast conserving surgery and the women who had modified radical mastectomy, has statistically significant differences about body image and sexual experiences scale scores. There is no statistically significant differences on self esteem. Conclusion: The results shows that breast conserving surgery had more advanatages about body image and sexual functions than mastectomy operation.
