Method for producing coated alkaline earth metal silicate phosphor particles

2012
Provided is a method for producing coated alkaline earth metal silicate phosphor particles, each of which comprises a coating film having high moisture resistance and water resistance and has improved light emission characteristics. Alkaline earth metal silicate phosphor particles containing strontium are pre-treated with an alkaline earth metal compound solution that has a pH of 6-10 (inclusive) and a strontium compound concentration of 1-15% by mass relative to the phosphor particles. After that, a base layer of an aluminum organic metal compound is formed on the surface of each pre-treated phosphor particle. After coating the resulting particle with a coating material that is formed of a hydrolysis-condensation product of a partially hydrolyzed silane organic metal compound, the coated particle is dried and heat-treated, thereby forming a coating film that is formed of an amorphous inorganic compound, which is mainly composed of Si and O, on the particle surface.
