Pitfalls of Press Fit Condylar Total Knee Replacement

1996
Press Fit Condylar total knee replacement has been performed in 22 knees (17 cases) since 1994.Eleven cases were for osteoarthritis and 6 cases for rheumatoid arthritis. The mean age of the patients was 72.1 years (range: 50 to 82 years).Roentgenographic measurement was taken of the femoral component flexion angle and the width/depth ratio of the tibia and tibial tray. The mean femoral component flexion angle was 3.8 degrees. Significant differences were seen between the width/depth ratio of the tibia and tibial tray (p=0.04).To avoid sagittal malalignment of the femoral component, we recommend that a preoperative alignment plan is made and that a large amount of intercondylar bone spur is resected especially for cases of severe anteverted femur. In some cases, the size of the tibia and tibial tray were mismatched. Therefore it is desirable that a greater variety of tibial tray sizes are supplied to provide better adaptation for various tibial shapes.
