An Economic Analysis of Precision Agriculture-A Case Study of Paddy in North Eastern Karnataka

Precision farming (PF) is considered as the agricultural system of the 21st century, as it symbolizes a better balance between reliance on traditional knowledge, information and management-intensive technologies. The present study was undertaken in the Koppal district of Karnataka. The study revealed that there were savings made with respect to chemical fertilizers and plant protection chemical (PPC) under PF. Thus sustainability in use of resources can also be achieved through PF. Paddy yield was higher by 10.68 percent in PF as compared to conventional farming. Conversely, the net returns was observed to be more (56.28 percent) in case of precision farming situation. Hence, there was a net gain of 16, 935.49 per ha was in precision farming over nonprecision farming.
