The invention relates to an environment-friendly refrigerant suitable for a refrigeration and cold storage system. The refrigerant is composed of the following components in percentage by mass: 1-29% of pentafluoroethane, 11-79% of propane and 12-78% of fluoroethane. The refrigerant has favorable environment-friendly performance, and does not damage the ozonosphere since the ozone depletion potential (ODP) is zero. The global warming potential (GWP) is less than R502 and R404A, and thus, the refrigerant can decelerate the global warming effect. On the premise of satisfying the same refrigerating capacity, the filling amount of the refrigerant is greatly decreased. The coefficient of performance (COP) of the overall system is higher than R502 and R404A, thereby enhancing the energy utilization ratio and reducing the carbon discharge amount. Besides, the refrigerant has the characteristics of small temperature glide, favorable thermodynamic properties, high market accessibility and the like, and can be directly filled in the refrigeration and cold storage system which originally uses the R502 or R404A refrigerant without replacing too many components or refilling lubricating oil.
