FORMATION OF PURYVATE-LACTATE INDEX AND OF GLUCOSE LEVEL IN CONTROLLED ALCOHOLEMIA

1981
Blood glucose, pyruvate and lactate concentrations have been investigated under controlled alcoholaemia. The group of 12 young, healthy men has been tested after consumption of 40 deg ethanol/1.2 g pure ethanol on 1 kg body weight/on an empty stomach and after breakfast. In the control group water-placebo has been used. After alcohol consumption hypoglycaemia and elevated blood lactate concentrations have been observed, particularly in fasting group. Pyruvate lactate index after alcohol decreased from 0,05-0,06 to 0,02. These changes can be explained as anoxemic alcohol influence, most probably due to decreased hepatic cell redox potential.
