IN THE literature on corrosion and stricture of the esophagus I remember reading about an alcoholic patient who for years had been in the habit of drinking whisky straight and who finally cast up the whole wall of his esophagus. Now and then, casting up of "Ausgusse" of the esophagus happens specifically in patients with lye corrosion one to three weeks after the accident. In the case described above the phenomenon was explained as being due to use of too-concentrated alcohol.
