Time-varying Wavelet Estimation and Deconvolution Using VSP Data

2014
VSP data has higher signal-to-noise ratio and resolution. It is an effective way to improve the resolution of surface seismic data by deconvolution using the wavelet extracted from VSP data. But the conventional VSP wavelet deconvolution method only extracts one deconvolution operator without considering the time-varying characteristic of seismic wavelet. This paper takes the downgoing direct wave of zero-offset VSP data as the one-way VSP seismic wavelet, and converts its spectra to that of the two-way surface seismic wavelet corresponding to post-stack seismic record by calculating the attenuation function of subsurface medium. Then obtain time-varying deconvolution operators under the assumption of minimum phase. Finally, apply them to the post-stack surface seismic data, which can improve the resolution and compensate the amplitude energy of seismic records simultaneously. Synthetic and real data examples demonstrate the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method.
