Simultaneous Determination of Ethyl Acetate and Residual Monomers in Adhesives by Headspace-GC/MS

A method for simultaneously determining the ethyl acetate and seven residual monomers(vinyl acetate,methyl methacrylate,ethyl methacrylate,butyl methacrylate,methyl acrylate,ethyl acrylate,and butyl acrylate)in adhesives by headspace-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(HS-GC/MS)was developed.Adhesive samples were separated on a HP-INNOWax column and detected by MS under SIM mode after heating at 120 ℃ for 20 minutes in a headspace sampler. The results showed that:1) The separation of all target analytes was achieved within 11 minutes,and it only took 22 minutes to complete the whole analysis. 2)The limits of detection and quantification of the target analytes were in the ranges of 1.9-8.6 and 6.3-28.6ng/mL,respectively. The recoveries ranged from 93.2% to 98.3% with the relative standard deviation(RSD)less than 6%.
