An apparatus for controlling a press arm (9) during the tensioning of a tension member (B, C1, D, E) in dependence on the tensile strength of a reference member (A) with a cylindrical hollow housing (20) in which it is mounted longitudinally displaceable along an axis (21) a piston (22) coupled to the reference member (a), wherein the housing (20) and the piston (22) enclose a chamber pressure (23) for movement axially lifting piston (22) against the tensile strength of the reference member (a) through an inlet (33) is applied with a pressure medium and through an outlet (35) is connectable to the press tensioning (9), and a valve unit (31) for controlling the drive of the press tensioning (9) with pressure medium, wherein the valve unit (31) is directly controllable by the lifting movement of the piston (22).
