Decommissioning after a severe accident

2017
Abstract The scope of this chapter is to discuss facilities that have been seriously contaminated and physically damaged because of a severe accident that made routine decommissioning strategies and techniques inapplicable, unusable, or impractical. The discussion elaborates on issues and factors typically encountered in such situations as shown by examples of activities for such facilities. This chapter also addresses the role of international cooperation; those activities promoted by the IAEA are highlighted.
