Next-generation probiotics and obesity—A mini systematic review

2021
Abstract Obesity is a significant public health concern, the occurrence of which is a multifactorial pathogenesis involving physical, environmental, genetic, and other factors, and it continues to rise steadily. It has been shown that probiotics affect the gut microbiota composition, strengthen gut integrity, and restore the microbial changes characteristic of obesity. Provided that several studies have reported traditional probiotics with modest ameliorative results as modern preventive and therapeutic approaches, the latest probiotics of the next generation are revealing themselves. The aim of this chapter is therefore to present evidence showing the effects of different next-generation probiotics and their potential effectiveness in controlling obesity.
