Some problem areas in capture cross-section measurements

This paper outlines some of the problems that have been encountered and are envisaged in the measurement and evaluation of capture cross-sections. Particular emphasis is placed on the cross-sections of the structural materials used in fast reactors. The topics considered are the influence of scattered neutrons, the determination of background, sample thickness corrections, and the theoretical representation of resonance parameters. (orig./RW)
