Recent advances in ion-trap technology

Recent technological improvements in the operation of RF quadrupole ion traps have resulted in spectacular advances in a number of scientific applications. This short review provides a summary of some new results in mass spectrometry and other areas which illustrate the astonishing versatility of this rapidly developing instrument.
