Larval development of Heucoverpa armigera (Hubner) on wild species and cultivated genotypes of chickpea

2002
The larval development of Helicoverpa armigera (Hub.) was studied under laboratory conditions on various plant parts, viz. tender leaves, flower buds, flowers, immature pods, immature grains and premature pods and premature grains of wild species (Cicer echinospermurn, C. judaicum, C. pinnatifidum and C. reticulatum) and cultivated genotypes (GG 830,GL 1014,GL 1302.1CC 5264 E 10 (Kabuli), standard varieties (PBGI and L 550 ), susceptible check(KPG 173-4) of chickpea. The larval development took 23.23, 20.67, 20.49, 9.85, 19.39, 21.02 and 20.63 days respectively on leaves, flower buds, flowers, immature pods, Immature grains and premature grains. On all the wild Species, larval development was significantly prolonged as compared to that on the cultivated genotypes. Amnong the cultivated genotypes, GL 1014 had the maximum larval development period as compared to other genotypes.
