Near-unipolar differential absorption in narrow coupled quantum wells: a potential mechanism for enhanced electrorefraction

1996
In summary, as the results of the two methods are comparable the different spectral contributions taken into account in calculating excitonic absorption by the variational and excitonic Green's function approaches provide a theoretical basis for empirically validating predicted electrorefractive effects in quantum wells. In particular it is shown that the calculated DAS of narrow coupled double quantum wells is essentially unipolar over a wide range of energy about the effective absorption edge irrespective of the computational method employed, leading to the prospect of obtaining enhanced electrorefraction in such structures.
