This article presents a recently developed ceramic recuperator burner suitable for use at process temperatures up to 1500°C. This system permits high air preheat temperatures of as high as 1100°C, equating to relative fuel savings of around 50 % vis-a-vis operation without air preheat. Such ceramic recuperator burners are particularly suited for installation in ceramic industry process kilns. NO x measurments made on this burner test stand and the temperature conditions in a production firing in a batch kiln are presented and discussed.
