Effects of different application rates of nitrogen fertilizer on growth, development and quality of flue-cured tobacco

2009
The effects of different nitrogen fertilizer application rates on growth, development and quality of fluecured tobacco were studied under agro-ecological environment of Hezhou,Guangxi,China. The experimental treatments were consisted of 4 nitrogen fertilizer application rates(105.0,112.5,120.0 and 127.5 kg/ha) with the basal fertilizer dose of P2O5(120 kg / ha) and K2O(360 kg / ha) in a randomized block design. It was observed that the general growth processes of flue-cured tobacco were not significantly affected with nitrogen fertilizer @ 105.0-127.5 kg / ha,but the stem diameter, leaf length and leaf width showed an increasing tendency with the increasing nitrogen rates, and the flue-cured tobacco treated with 105.0 and 112.5 kg / ha nitrogen occurred off-fertilizer after top pruning.Further, the yield of tobacco leaves increased with increasing nitrogen application rate, and the rate of first-class of flue-cured tobacco, average purchase price, output value and smoking quality was found to be the best at 120.0 kg / ha nitrogen fertilization.
