Einige Bemerkungen zum späten Neuen Reich in Matmar

1998
Among early egyptological publications, there is a noticeable lack of material dated to the 20th dynasty. This is because such material has not been discovered or as we believe been mistakenly dated to the 19th dynasty. With advances in our knowledge of the late New Kingdom in general, it is possible to re-examine a number of earlier excavation reports in order to distinguish between the 19th and the 20th dynasties. A case in point is the Matmar area 900-1000-1100. A close analysis of the finds, particularly the pottery, indicates that the graves dug within areas 1000 and 1100 can be dated to the 11th-10th centuries B.C. (dynasties 20-21). Similarly, an examination of the settlement remains within the temple area, sectors 900 and 1000, indicates that the temple precinct was probably utilised as a major housing area from the 20th dynasty to the 25th/26th dynasties.
