Impacto de la edad relativa en los resultados en lengua y matemáticas en educación primaria en Asturias

espanolNumerosos estudios han analizado el efecto de diversas variables del alumnado sobre su rendimiento escolar, asi como sobre los resultados en las pruebas de diagnostico de las diferentes Comunidades Autonomas. Sin embargo, el mes de nacimiento todavia no se contempla como variable en muchos de los estudios, obviando el hecho de que en las aulas se aplican las mismas pruebas a ninos y ninas donde la diferencia de edad es a veces de hasta casi un ano, sin que sus notas sean ajustadas en funcion de su edad relativa. Esta investigacion analiza el impacto del mes de nacimiento del alumnado en las notas en Lengua y Matematicas de los cursos de 2o, 4o y 6o de Educacion Primaria de la Comunidad Autonoma del Principado de Asturias en el periodo 2008-2013. En primer lugar se realizo un analisis bivariable para valorar la asociacion entre notas finales del respectivo curso y el mes de nacimiento, asi como para determinar el porcentaje de repeticion de curso segun mes y, finalmente, la relacion entre el mes de nacimiento y tener refuerzo educativo. A continuacion se realizo un analisis de regresion logistica multinivel para contrastar si la propension a obtener sobresaliente en matematicas o en lengua difiere para el alumnado nacido en el ultimo trimestre del ano controlando el efecto del sexo y del curso y el nivel colegio al que acuden. Los resultados muestran que el alumnado nacido en los ultimos meses del ano tiene una mayor probabilidad de obtener peores notas, repetir curso y recibir refuerzo educativo, y una menor probabilidad de obtener la calificacion sobresaliente en ambas asignaturas. However, relative age is still a missing variable in many of these studies, which do not take into account that the same tests are applied to all students in class, being some of them up to almost a year younger than their classmates. This paper explores the impact of birth month on language and mathematics achievement in Grades 2, 4 and 6 in Primary Students Population in Asturias County among the academic years 2008-2013. First, bivariate analysis were carried out to assess the association between the final grades of the respective course and the student?s birth month, to determine grade retention percentage by month, and, finally, the relationship between educational reinforcement an relative age. The results show that students born in the last months of the year obtained a higher percentage of failures, grade retention and educational reinforcements in language and mathematics, as well as a lower probability of achieving outstanding.
