Preparation and characterization of a novel Cassava silk film containing nanopore structure

2019
Abstract A novel Cassava silk film was developed by a straightforward casting method. The process included dissolution of the degummed silk fibers in a CaCl2-formic acid mixture, casting by evaporation of the solvent, and rinsing with water. Nanopores were detected in the film. The Cassava silk film supported cell growth similarly to the B. mori silk film. Given the versatility and biocompatibility of these materials, our new nanoporous silk film should have applications in biotechnology and biomedicine.
