Nondestructive Investigation of Fibre Reinforced Composites by X-Ray Computed Tomography

1994
This contribution discusses the X-ray computed tomography as a tool for nondestructive testing of fibre reinforced components. A modified medical CT system is used to examine leaf springs made by glass fibre reinforced composites. The reconstructed, cross sections are compared with destructively measured density distributions. Small objects were scanned by a high resolution CT system with a microfocal X-ray tube as source and selective two different detection systems. Its resolution capability is about 20 µm.
