SOYBEAN PLANT RESPONSE TO ANNUAL CROP WINDBREAKS UNDER RAIN-FED CONDITIONS

Parallel annual crop windbreaks consisting of one or two rows of sunflowers were planted in a soybean field at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Data from 2 years of study showed that neither one nor two rows of parallel windbreaks beneficially influenced total water use, rate of phenological development, height, leaf area, top dry weight, yield components or seed yield.Key words: Soybean, Glycine max., windbreaks, sheltering
