PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent which gives a liquid crystal aligning layer having excellent vertical aligning property and high UV resistance.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal aligning agent contains at least polysiloxane and a solvent. The solvent contains a compound expressed by the formula (S1): RO-((CR)-O)-H. In formula (S1), Rrepresents a phenyl group or a benzyl group, and the phenyl group or the benzyl group can be substituted with a halogen atom, a cyano group or a 1-4C alkyl group; Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a 1-8C alkyl group; m2 represents an integer of 2 to 8; m2 represents an integer of 1 to 4; a plurality of Rmay be the same or mutually different; and if a plurality of m1 is present, the plurality of m1 may be the same or mutually different.
