Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury is defined as a chronic pain secondary to an injury or disease affecting the somatosensory system; it is a frequent pathology of central origin which generates a negative impact on the quality of life, physical function, mood and rehabilitation. The approach and management of chronic neuropathic pain is a challenge for the physiatrist. Most patients have severe pain that is difficult to manage. The choice of pharmacological treatment according to the level of recommendation, interdisciplinary management, the use of adjunctive therapies and interventional management are important determinants of successful treatment.
