Efficacy of oral gels and serum biochemical parameters change in diarrheal calves of yak

2015
On the basis of clinical examination a total of 24yaks(6-35days)were randomly selected comprising 12 diarrheal and 12 normal yaks. All animals in diarrheal group and 4animals from normal group were administrated oral gels for 3days to compare and observe the healing effect of oral gel.Serum samples were also collected from pre-treatment and post-treatment yaks, respectively. Results in this study showed that the oral gels were effective to treatment of diarrhea significantly 75%(9/12).There were no intergroup difference in serum Mg2+and CRE(P0.05);the serum c-reactive protein(CRP)levels were significantly higher in diarrheal yaks than normal ones(P0.05).Before treatment of oral gel there was a decrease in Ca2+、P、Cl-、Na+、TP、ALB、ALP、ALT and AST in the serum of diarrheal yaks(P0.05)compared with normal group. After administration of oral gel the levels of Ca2+,ALB,ALT and AST in diarrheal yaks recovered(P0.05),furthermore there was no distinct change of Ca2+and ALB in serum compared with normal group(P0.05).In normal yaks the activity of AST、ALP and ALT showed no significant difference before and after administrated oral gels(P0.05).It is concluded that there were significant biochemical changes in diarrheal yaks and oral gel was effective to stop diarrhea without adverse effects.
