Optical and microwave studies of ferroelectric nanoparticles for application in biomedical imaging

Because of the unique properties of nanoparticles in the electromagnetic spectrum, its use as diagnostic agents for improved visualization is an emerging research area in biomedical imaging. However specific aspects of nanoparticles need to be explored to illustrate these applications. In this paper we present the dielectric and optical studies performed on propylene carbonate colloid of barium titanate nanoparticles at different volume fractions. The behavior of these nanoparticles at the near infrared optical window and at the industrial, scientific, and medical applications band suggests its potential application as contrast agents or tracers in optical and microwave medical imaging. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
