What is wellbeing for the elderly

2016
The concept of wellbeing has been used widely in multiple disciplines of scientific research and in political discourses of Western societies. Wellbeing is something almost everyone has an idea about, but a closer look reveals that there does not appear to be a shared understanding of the concept (e.g. Karisto, 2011). Sometimes wellbeing has been seen mainly as a question of health, economic state, or sustainability. In empirical research, the concept of wellbeing has been studied for decades, and the results confirm that wellbeing consists of multiple related dimensions (e.g. Allardt, 1976; Bowling and Gabriel, 2007; Jivraj et al., 2014; Vanhoutte, 2014; Hammarstrom and Torres, 2012; Vitterso and Nilsen, 2002).
