Kulturološko-antropološki aspekti djelovanja korčulanskih bratovština

In cultural-anthropological aspect, the tradition of fraternities in Korcula had special influence on cultural identity so today three great historical confraternities are still active: All Saints (1301), Saint Roque (1575) and Blesse Virgin Mary of Consolation (1603). These confraternities carry on the live tradition of all public and church celebrations that are organized in Korcula throughout the year. In these events participates practically all population of the city of Korcula. In order to analyze the origin significance, heritage and influence of the confraternities on the society today, in is necessary to use interdisciplinary approach combining culturology, ethnology and socio-cultural anthropology. Synthesis of cultural practice and its influence is followed by the analysis of the symbolical meanings of these practices, and its influence on Korcula identity. The objective of the research is to understand how Korcula conftaternies have managed to excercise such a comprehensive influence on the society and why their activities are so vivid even today.
