Chemicals from Coal

1978
The shortage of crude oil is expected to lead to the production of liquid fuels from coal by the end of the century. Methanol made from synthesis gas on the coal field could be used as a fuel additive or be converted to olefines, glycols, and acetic acid. Ammonia would be made from synthesis gas. It is proposed that a national effort may be required to marshal resources, and train technologists to prepare Australia for this era.
