The effect of enteral nutritional support on nutritional status of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with concurrent chemoradiation

2015
Objective To discuss the effect of enteral nutritional support on nutritional status of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with concurrent chemoradiation. Methods A total of 50 volunteer patients were treated by percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy(PEG) before concurrent chemoradiation, completely by enteral nutrition support from the first day concurrent chemoradiation to one month after the end. The nutritional risks and nutritional status were evaluated before and after treatment. Results There were not statistical differences on the patients received enteral nutritional support via PEGPH values for PEGthe nutritional risks (NRS-2002), malnutrition incidence rates(SGA)and nutrition index between before and after the fourteen day, at end of chemoradiation and one month after the end of chemoradiation. Conclusions Nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated by PEGbefore concurrent chemoradiation, would be given enteral nutrition support timely and efficiently, which could reduce the nutritional risk, improve patient's nutrition condition and immunologic function, enhance the quality of life.
