The coated image includes a solid ink image, which is produced by solid ink, and a shell layer containing the solid ink image is at least partially covered. An aqueous coating layer composition for application to a solid ink image, which comprises at least one latex emulsion, at least one polymer wax or a wax emulsion polymer and at least one co-binder.
