Supramolecular polymers and their application as coating materials

2009
Supramolecular polymers which are formed via non-covalent bonding possess many unique properties.Up to date, three main categories of non-covalent bonding, including coordination,π-stacking and hydrogen bonding, have been used in assembling such polymers. It was found that hyperbranched polymers bearing ureidopyrimidone(Upy) units display good coating performances due to the formation of self-complementary quadruple hydrogen bonding of Upy units.Their melt viscosities are decreased sharply with increasing temperature, which makes the polymers suitable for use as novel hot-melting coating materials.
