Generation of femtosecond synchrotron pulses from the Advanced Light Source

We report the generation of femtosecond synchrotron radiation pulses from the Advanced Light Source by using a femtosecond laser to accelerate an ultrashort slice of the electron beam. This is a new high-brightness source for ultrafast X-ray spectroscopy.
