Contemporary Issues in The Indonesian Fish Logistics Policy Development and Implementation Strategies

2017
The Indonesian government has made a clear policy to promote the use of the country’s maritime resources. One of the issues is to ensure Indonesian fish products can be marketed domestically and internationally in a competitive business environment. This paper highlights the global situation in fish markets and supply chain related with the delivery in the marketplace. A review of Indonesian national fish logistics information system is carried out to identify barriers in implementing policy, technological and strategy, and ways to mitigate those barriers. This paper explores different methodologies to set priorities for implementation strategy. The result of the exercise demonstrates that a list of locations for marine logistic hubs can be determined to ensure that the supply and demand for fresh and processed fish products are met. The success of attracting private sector to develop marine logistic hubs will depend on the (1) ports and fish processing infrastructure, (2) government and industry support in the region, (3) access to roads and highways, and (4) proximity of the market, and (5) labor availability.
