Vacuum stripping of trichlorofluoromethane emulsions from water sprays
1991
Abstract The feasibility of using a vacuum spray chamber for stripping emulsified organic liquid (in this case, trichlorofluoromethane) from water sprays was investigated. The mass transfer rates of refrigerant-11 from aqueous emulsions using a flat spray nozzle were measured and a mathematical model developed that accounts for the flashing of the organic droplets and for their solution into the aqueous phase. The mass transfer coefficients for stripping of the dissolved refrigerant, obtained from previously measured mass transfer rates of other solution in vacuum spray chambers, were used with the model to predict reasonably well the mass transfer of refrigerant-11 from aqueous emulsions of refrigerant.
