Color and Genesis of Amazonite

2016
The nature of the amazonite color is explained by the presence of hole–electron centers of Pb and Al and structural centers of IV Fe 3+ that cause the corresponding absorption bands of 380 nm (Al–O − –Al; Fe 3+ ), 625 nm (Pb + ), and 720–740 nm (O − –Pb + ) in the UV–VIS–NIR spectra. Amazonite, as a rule, appears in the final phases of formation in different genetic types of granitic and pegmatitic rocks and, therefore, represents a clear index of the manifestation of the later and superposition processes in the various types of deposits related to specific mineralization. The genesis of amazonite includes the following: general geological conditions, mode of formation, and genesis of amazonite color itself. A five-stage formation of amazonite (three acidic and two alkaline stages) does not correspond to the traditional conceptualizations of a three- or four-stage regime of acidity–alkalinity of the post-magmatic processes.
