Visco-elastic dynamic characteristics of polystyrene modified using butadiene-styrene block-copolymers☆

Abstract Visco-elastic dynamic characteristics of melts of PS mixtures and three-block butadiene-styrene copolymers (type SBS) were studied in a wide range of frequencies and temperatures. The introduction of SBS additives into PS has an alloying action, the optimum of which is achieved with a content of SBS of ≈10 wt.%. Results of dynamic investigations and electron microscopy prove that the copolymer separates into an independent phase. The possibility was considered of evaluating heterophase properties of the polymer composition by comparing the dependences of viscosity on shear rate and of composite dynamic viscosity on frequency.
