Inelastic proton scattering at 185 MeV from 3− and 5− states of 40Ca

Abstract Experimental results for scattering of 185 MeV protons from the 3 − states at 3.74, 6.29 and 6.58 MeV and the 5 − state at 4.49 MeV in 40 Ca have been analyzed in the distorted wave impulse approximation using shell-model wave functions. The single-particle features of the excitations are discussed in a comparison with relevant results from stripping experiments. Experimental data for scattering from other 40 Ca levels below 7 MeV excitation energy are also presented.
