Investigation of the Features of a T-LSM with Quasi-Halbach PM Excitation under Manufacturing Constraints

2016
The paper is aimed at an investigation of the no-load features of a tubular-linear synchronous machine (TLSM) with quasi-Halbach PMs in the mover that takes into consideration the constraint allied to the manufacturing of the radially magnetized magnets. These are achieved by four equal parts with parallel magnetization, yielding the so-called "quasi-radially magnetized PMs". A special attention is paid to a 3D finite element analysis (FEA)-based investigation of the effects of such a topological change on the machine no-load features. The predicted features are experimentally validated. It has been found that the proposed arrangement of the radially magnetized PMs has an insignificant effect on the no-load features.
