Imaging and Clinical Staging for Penile Cancer

2014
Physical examination and imaging are required for the staging of penile carcinoma according to the TNM system. Physical examination of the primary tumor, evaluating the morphology and physical characteristics of the lesion, is essential. The key element in staging of gland tumors, in particular, is the search for infiltration of the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosa. When physical examination is insufficient, ultrasound and especially MRI with intracavernosal injection of prostaglandin are very useful, particularly to improve the selection of patients eligible for conservative treatment.
