Synthesis of yttrium and lanthanide silyloxy complexes from anhydrous nitrate and oxo alkoxide precursors and the x-ray crystal structure of [Ce(OSiPh3)3(THF)3](THF)

1990
The anhydrous trivalent nitrates (NH{sub 4}){sub x}Ln(NO{sub 3}){sub 3+x} (Ln = Y, Ce, Nd, Pr), prepared by heating Ln(NO{sub 3}){sub 3}(H{sub 2}O){sub y} in the presence of NH{sub 4}NO{sub 3}, react with 3 + x equiv of NaOSiPh{sub 3} in THF to form (Ln(OSiPh{sub 3}){sub 3}(THF){sub 3})(THF) complexes. The crystal structure of the complexes is reported. The anhydrous tetravalent nitrate (NH{sub 4}){sub 2}Ce(NO{sub 3}){sub 6} reacts with 6 equiv of (a) NaOSiPh{sub 3} in DME to form Ce(OSiPh{sub 3}){sub 4}(DME) and (b) NaOSiEt{sub 3} in CH{sub 3}CN to form Ce(OSiEt{sub f3}){sub 4}. (NH{sub 4}){sub 3}Y(NO{sub 3}){sub 6} reacts with NaO{sup i}Pr in 2-propanol to form Y{sub 5}(O{sup i}Pr){sub 13}O, which reacts with Ph{sub 3}SiOH to form (Y(OSiPh{sub 3}){sub 3}(THF){sub 3})(THF). 40 refs., 1 fig., 3 tabs.
