Fundamento Una ingestion de acido folico (AF)inferior a 400 μg/dia aumenta el riesgo de defectosdel tubo neural. Por ello, se ha evaluadola proporcion de mujeres con ingestion de AFinferior a 400 μg/dia en la Comunidad Valenciana,y los factores asociados. Sujetos Y Metodo Se estimo la ingestion de AFpara 538 mujeres de 15–44 anos de edad participantesen la Encuesta de Nutricion Valencianade 1994, y se estudiaron las variablesasociadas a una prevalencia de ingestion suboptimade AF ( Resultados La ingestion media de AF fue de392 μg/dia. Un 57,6% de las mujeres presentoun consumo suboptimo. El consumo inadecuadofue mayor en las mujeres mas jovenes,con menor practica deportiva, menor indice demasa corporal y menarquia mas temprana. Conclusiones Una alta proporcion de mujerespresentan ingestion de AF considerada de riesgopara DTN, sobre todo las mas jovenes conmenor practica deportiva.
